Catalonia is one of Spain's 17 autonomous communities. It shares a border with France. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. The 580 km of coastline that Catalonia enjoys is home to the famous tourist areas of the Costa Brava, the Costa de Barcelona - Maresme and the Costa Dorada.
It is the birthplace of Salvador Dali, the famous painter, Antoni Gaudí, the author of many of Spain's architectural masterpieces, and Monserat Caballero, now a famous opera soloist. The Costa Brava is a resort stretching from Barcelona almost to the French border, a Mediterranean coastline of indescribable beauty, with coves, coves, promontories, pine trees caressed by the sea breezes, and inviting beaches. The Wild Coast is so named because many parts of the coastline are inaccessible to the sea, with mountains and steep cliffs reaching out to the sea, leaving no narrow patch of beach. But where there are small, narrow beaches, there are wonderful resorts. Good swimmers are particularly fond of these places, as it gets much deeper 10 metres from the shore.
